Downlight is widely used in both commercial and residential applications. They enhance the aesthetics of the environment they are in. These luminaires are usually mounted on a recess fixture and the recess goes into the false ceiling.
Conventional downlight comes in different sizes and designs. Their light source may use the PL or E27
type socket. The one shown above is the E27 type and different types of E27 bulbs can be use in it, be it incandescent, CFL or LED bulbs.
The newer LED downlight comes with addition options like different power wattage and lens finishing as they come in as a complete luminaire fixture. These LED downlight have a wide range of applications in the market today. The switch to LED luminaire is a fast moving game as there are really too many advantages using LED.
The luminaire shown here is configure into a 30W LED downlight luminaire. This design is commonly used in commercial buildings especially at the office lobby, corridor and inside the shopping mall. FYI, LED applications are so flexible that it can be customize and be configure into a 15/ 30/ 60W LED luminaire.
One of our overseas partner has develop a new LED downlight. This one is really nice and slim, or rather very slim. Shown in the picture below, the new LED downlight is the white colour one. I managed to remove one of the current LED downlight from it's fixture and place it beside the new LED downlight to do a size comparison.
Take a closer look at these 2 LED downlights, both are 4" downlights but there is a big difference in terms of depth sizes. Looks impressive, i could not figure out how they manage to shrink the electronics inside however the technology today has enable the slim LED downlight to materialize as shown.
Finally, you can choose the finishing on the LED downlight lens. They have 2 main types, either clear and frosted finishing. I like the clear type as the LED dices can be seen but it will cause some discomfort glare if you stare at it for too long...
Before i forget, the colour temperature of this LED downlight range from 2700K to 6500K. The warm white colours will provide the ambience necessary for relaxation while the cool white and daylight colours will fulfill the requirements of a working/ studying environment. I'm pretty sure this one will do well in it's 'arena' to replace the conventional downlight. What do you think? :)
